Kaibin Huang graduated with B.Eng (with First Class Honors) and M.Eng. from National University of Singapore and received a Ph.D. degree from The University of Texas at Austin, all in electronic engineering. At UT Austin, he was co-supervised by Prof. Jeff Andrews and Prof. Robert Heath Jr.

Driven by the world leading telecommunication industry in S. Korea, Kaibin began his academic career as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of EEE Yonsei Unviersity in the country in 2009. At Yonsei, he received the Outstanding Teaching Award in 2011. He relocated to Hong Kong in 2012, first in the Department of Applied Mathematics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic Unviersity (2012-2013) and then in the Department of EEE at The University of Hong Kong (2014-date). At HKU, he is now a tenured (full) Professor and Associate Department Head.

Kaibin has published 90+ IEEE journal papers and an inventor of 14 USA patents. His work is well cited, making him a Highly Cited Researcher by the Clarivate Analytics in 2019-2021. He has received from the IEEE Communication Society several paper awards including 2021 Best Survey Paper, 2019 Best Tutorial Paper, 2019 Asia?Pacific Outstanding Paper, 2015 Asia?Pacific Best Paper Award, and the best paper awards at IEEE GLOBECOM 2006 and IEEE/CIC ICCC 2018. In 2021, he was elevated to Fellow of IEEE ``for contributions to wirelessly powered communications and multi-antenna communications''. He is also a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Communications Society and the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society. In Hong Kong, he has also received accolades for his research excellence. In particular, he was awarded a Research Fellowship (2021 class) by Hong Kong Research Grants Council, a prestigious funding scheme with 10 awardees per year as selected over all academic disciplines.

He has been active in organising flagship conferences in the area of telecommunication. For instance, he served as the Lead Chair for the Wireless Communications Symposium of IEEE Globecom 2017 and the Communication Theory Symposium of IEEE GLOBECOM 2014, and the TPC Co-chair for IEEE PIMRC 2017 and IEEE CTW 2023 and 2013.

Kaibin has served on the editorial boards of major journals in the area of wireless communications. Presently, he is an Executive Editor of IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, an Associate Editor of IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (JSAC), and an Area Editor and a member of Steering Committee for IEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking. Previously, he served on the Editorial Board for IEEE Wireless Communications Letters. He has guest edited popular special issues of IEEE JSAC, IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing, and IEEE Communications Magazine.
